How To Program RainBird ESP Controller

How to program your RainBird ESP Modular sprinkler system timer the easy way.

In this step by step guide we’ll walk you through setting up your RainBird ESP Modular controller. We’ll go through everything you need to know to get your sprinklers running automatically.

Date & Time: The first step is getting your date and time set up.

  • Flip the knob over to “Current Date
  • Use the “Up” and “Down” arrows to change the values, use the “ADV” button to go to the next value.
  • This will take you through the, date, month, and year.
  • Flip over to “Current Time” and repeat.
  • When you flip away your settings will be saved.

Start Times: This setting determines what time your sprinklers come on. The RainBird Modular has four start times you can set up for one day. If you use multiple programs we recommend not using the same start time for more than one.

  • Flip the knob to “Watering Start Times
  • Use the “Up” and “Down” signs to adjust the start time.
  • Press “ADV” to scroll through the four different start time options.
  • Make sure they’re off unless you want them on.
  • To turn a program off, adjust the time before midnight. There you will see “OFF”.

Note: This controller also has three other programs, ABC. Flip the selector switch to check your time on these programs to make sure you don’t have any unwanted settings.

Water Days: This is where we set up what days we want to water. Also, why it was necessary to set up the date and time. Without that, our watering days could be off.

  • Flip over to “Days to Water” starting with Monday, ending with Sunday.
  • Press the “Up” arrow on everyday that you want to water. You’ll see it say ON next to that day. This means you are watering.
  • Press the “Down” arrow on everyday that you don’t want to water. You’ll see OFF if you aren’t watering.
  • Move the switch for every day of the week.

Run Times: This programs how long each zone will water your lawn.

  • Flip the knob to “Set Valve Run Time” starting with zone one.
  • Use the “Up” and “Down” signs to adjust the run time for each zone.
  • Move through each zone and adjust the time, if you don’t want it to run turn the time down to 0:00.
  • You can have different run times for each zone, customize them suitable for your lawns needs.
  • Move the switch through each of the zones, turning them one or off.
  • Move the knob to “Auto”

That’s it! Your RainBird ESP Modular sprinkler system is fully programmed and will run automatically now. Sit back and relax.
